Jaunt 2016

This sound scape was recorded throughout Worcester City, Guild Hall, cells and the cathedral.
The piece discusses the journey of Worcester through a physical walk and a historic documentation of the city and its people. Each recorded sound has an element of the journey in it too.
Overall, The Jaunt is 4 minutes 30 seconds long. At the start of the piece you can hear more natural sounds (people talking, the river Severn, footsteps). Gradually, layers of technicality is included. This is first introduced with a Claro Voice reading about the civil war. The two elements in this certain recording contradict each other; having a robot voice read a paragraph about a historic event.
Modern Worcester is represented through the conversation happening but moreover the climax at the end. Through out the piece the editing got more intricate causing the sounds to become more detailed. A subtle noise becomes increasingly louder and raises all the layers to a state where all the audience can hear is noise. No detail is in the piece; all that could be heard is the increasing sound of ‘noise’. Suddenly, there is a complete drop to silence. This is where the piece finishes, 30 seconds of silence.
The audience is left unsettled, a since of uncertainty and annoyance ligers as, although there is a resolution to the piece, it is not what the audience feel satisfactory.
